Τhe Under-Secretary of Tourism visits the Bishop of Corfu
The Under- secretary of Tourism, Mr. Manos Consolas, was received on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 22, 2019, by His Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios. The Under- secreatry was accompanied by Corfu MP Mr Stefanos Gikas, Secretary General of Tourism Policy and Development Mr Konstantinos Loulis, EOTA President Mr Angela Gerekou and officials.
Mr Nektarios was briefed by the Under- Secretary of State on the intentions of the new government to boost religious tourism programs, while raising Mr Consolas’ concerns about Corfu’s potential to harness both its natural as well as its cultural and religious wealth and the place to be strengthened, but also to solve years of problems that annoy him. Mr. Nektarios pointed to the openings of the Corfu Metropolis in Russia and Romania, which in effect inaugurated a reinforced religious tourism, which greatly helped the island in times of crisis.
On his part, the Under-Secretary expressed the will of the Prime Minister Mr. Mitsotakis and the Government to strengthen the work of the Church, emphasizing that the Church existed as an institution of the modern Greek state and therefore its role and contribution should not be questioned. in the history, tradition and prospects of Greek society, while he welcomed the initiatives and work of the local Church.
His Eminence expressed his pleasure for the presence in Corfu of the Secretary General of the Ministry Mr. Constantinos Loulis, with whom he was a classmate at the school in Volos, and continued their friendship and cooperation during the years of the pastorship of the then Archbishop Christodoulos, who was then Bishop of Dimitrias.
