Barbara the Great Martyr had a powerful mind

Bishop of Corfu, mr. Nektarios “Barbara the Great Martyr had a powerful mind”

On Monday, December 4, 2017, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the Churchy of Saint Vasileios, in Corfu town.
In his preaching, the Bishop had as his basis the day’s reading from St. Paul’s Letter to the Galatians and he pointed out the fact that people of that time were in confusion whether they should or not follow the rules of the Law. Prior to the incarnation of Jesus Christ, the Israeli people were guided and ruled by the Mosaic Law.

With Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross and His Resurrection, the Grace of God appears to this world. Apostle Paul himself mentions that there are no longer distinctions between the sexes and nationalities of humans, but they are all part of Christ’s Body.

So did Saint Barbara, continued the Bishop. Even if she was a woman, she had love, faith for Christ and powerful mind. She did not swoon in front of her torturers and she confessed the name of Jesus Christ.

Moreover, mr. Nektarios emphasized the fact that our modern times seem to the one of Saint Barbara. The persecutions against the Church of Christ continue in a treacherous way, through globalization. The modern human is trapped in his/her ego and his/her passionate state, disregarding both his/her spiritual prosperity and the ministry of others.

In his closing, his Eminence invited the faithful Christians to imitate the powerful and contending spirit of Barbara the Great Martyr and acquire the brave mind in the modern difficult times while confessing with boldness our Lord, Jesus Christ.
