Bishop of Corfu, Mr. Nektarios: “God asks us to give Him our heart

.On Sunday, August 4, 2019, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Monastery of Ypsilos Pantokrator in the North part of Corfu.

In his preaching, the Bishop of Corfu: ” We the powerful should help the weak ones”

The Apostle of the Nations, after finding out that there were feelings of self-interest, piety, pride and self-interest among the Christians in Rome, urges those who are strong in faith, that is, those who live by observing the Divine will, to show love and understanding their sisters and stand as helpers in their difficulties through their prayer. After all, the only sinless man, Jesus Christ, never condemned any human being, but poured out His infinite blood on the Cross for the salvation of the whole human race.

We should as sinners to support our brothers. We are not allowed to criticize them or condemn them by remaining in the minority, when one has even touched upon the image of selfishness we have built. God wants us to give Him our heart. That is why we need to struggle daily, beg Christ to lighten the darkness of our hearts, and then turn to our brother to care about the major. Let us instill in our soul the love that is the Lord Himself and the forgiveness.

Moreover, his Eminence mentioning the extraordinary miracle of the Transfiguration of our Lord in front of his Disciples, underlined that life is a spiritual journey towards Divinity. Christians’ mission is to unify with God. That’s why, they communicate lovingly with Him. However, the envy created by the evil and the desire of humans to be completed without the Divine Grace, led to the Fall which brought sin, decline and death. On the Mount Tabor, the Triune God is transfigured and revealed. Everyone is invited to participate in this Transfiguration, living a life with Christ in it, realising our sins, our repentance, the removal of our own will and the participation in the Holy Mysteries of our Church and above all with our love for the Triune God and our fellow people.

In his closing, Mr. Nektarios having wished the Taborian Light to light the souls of the faithful ones, thanked the Archimandrite father Ioustinos Konstantas, Chancellor of the Holy Metropolis and Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Pantrokrator for his work along with the rest of the priests. He aslo thanked the newly elected MP of Corfu, Mr. Stefanos Gikas and the newly elected Mayor of North Corfu, Mr. Georgios Macheimaris for their help to the Holy Metropolis.
