Bishop of Corfu, Mr. Nektarios: “In this messy world, let’s see our mistakes!”
On Tuesday, December 31, 2019, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Vesper in the celebrating Holy Church of Saint Basil in Corfu. During the service, the hymns of the day were sung in the local Corfiot chanting style by the Choir and the Protopresbyter father George Bogdanos.
In his speech, Mr. Nektarios begged the crowd, in this messy world, to see our mistakes, to meet God and His will again, after remembering that Saint Basil the Great taught us how God created the World with wisdom, in order for humans, who are the highest creation, to live with faith and love and not to be Gods themselves.
He underlined that God sent His Son and Word, who already exists in our Hearts, since we are created like His own Image. Christ became human to give us the opportunity to use our time for our own salvation, having found again the route towards God.
The Bishop of Corfu concluded by saying that God will give to humans the Resurrection which will lead us to Him forever, in the aproppriate time for each one.
Saint Basil taught us all the aforementioned, while giving us the chance to put ourselves in order and leave behind the mess, insecurity and everything untidy relating to God, our fellow people and our world.
In the end, the Bishop of Corfu wished to the crowd a happy and blessed new year and Corfu and our homeland to have its orthodox spiritual direction!
