Bishop of Corfu, Mr. Nektarios: “Let’s compare ourselves to the holy Martydrom”
On Wednesday morning, December 4, 2019, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the celebrating Holy Church of Saint Varvara in Rachtades, North Corfu.
Speaking to the church, Mr. Nektarios, on the occasion of the Epistle’s reading of the day, pointed out that for our Church there is no difference between man and woman because we are all images of God. There is no xenophobia. There are people who are fighting to be close to God and people who are enemies of the faith, but this is our choice. In the spirit of the Church we live in the greatness of not separating man. We are all brothers. No one is superior, no one is inferior.
Saint Varvara had acquired a spirit of courage based on the grace of God. It was not her nature that made her strong, but her faith. She confessed the true God. She deleted the validity of the risks. She gave her blood in favor of faith and confession. He presented faith and sacrifice. The martyrdom of her blood, as well as the martyrdom of all the saints in the centuries before the supernatural altar, as evangelist John states in Revelation. We will be compared to this martyr. We will judge and compare ourselves when we see ourselves lagging behind in confession, in faith, in worship, in respect of our duties to God and to our fellow humans.
Mr Nektarios closed his mind by saying that we are living in a time of crisis, in a time of distorting our history and identity. Spiritual judgment does not pass, it does not heal because it alienates us from God. It only makes us believe in ourselves. St. Barbara invites us to renew our lives. To return to God and remember God’s benefits to us.
The Divine Liturgy was attended by, among others, Corfu MP Mr Stefanos Gikas and the Mayor of Northern Corfu George Machimaris.
