Bishop of Corfu, Mr. Nektarios” Our Life is not worth it without the spiritual fruit”
On Sunday afternoon, April 21, 2019, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Bridesgroom Service in the Holy Church of Saint Paraskevi in Corfu town.
In his speech, his Eminence using as a basis the Gospel’s reading of the matin of the Holy Monday, underlined that the fig tree, cursed by Lord is related to the spiritual blinding of Jewish people, on the morrow of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem after which Christ was Crucified. Spiritual inability to produce fruit is not only about Jewish people then, but also about us today, who having received God’s Grace with our Baptism, we only care about our material needs and social empowerement. We should understand that life is not really worth it without the spiritual fruit.
Moreover, the Bishop of Corfu underlined that the Gospel’s reading of the day points out that Christ awaits the return of the humans even if it happens in the last minute, the twelfth hour. The twelfth hour is the days of the Holy and Great Week, when the Saviour of this world moves towards His willing Passion.Even now, Christ invites us to fight, to crucify our sins, evils and let our passions die, in order for Christ to resurrect us during the bright day of His Resurrection.
In his closing, Mr. Nektarios wished a happy and blessed Holy Week.
