Bishop of Corfu, Mr. Nektarios: “Saint Dimitrios attracted Holy Grace in his life”
On Friday, October 26, 2018 his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the celebrating Holy Monastery of Saint Dimitrios, in Agioi Douloi village, northern Corfu. On Thursday evening, October 25, his Eminence did the celebrating Vesper in the Holy Church of Saint Dimitrios in Ano Pavliana.
In his speech, the Bishop of Corfu referring to the Doxastikon of the Vesper, stressed that our Church invites us to celebrate the memory of Saint Dimitrios with our soul giving to God, imitating the way Saint Dimitrios himself loved Christ. He fulfilled the reason of being, with the same way of devotion and sacrifice for Christ’s love, even if he was young and had many military offices.
Moreover, his Eminence noted that Saint Dimitrios attracted the Holy Grace in his life. His boldness and bravery in front of his torturers sprung from his indestructible faith and love to Lord. When a person has no clue of God’s Grace, then he/she acts cowardly when facing pain and death.
In his closing, Mr. Nektarios underlined that Saint Dimitrios is still alive. His graceful relics are a source of healing of mental and physical problems on a daily basis, proving that our Orthodox faith is the only road leading to salvation and Divine Communication.
Lastly, his Eminence wished that the Triune God, through the embassies of Saint Dimitrios, will strengthen both the Abbess, and her blessed company in the spiritual struggle they face.
