Bishop of Corfu, Mr. Nektarios: Sainthood is the real revolution

On Sunday evening, October 6, 2019, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios  was present In the celebrating Vesper of the Holy Church of Saint Three Martyrs in Anemomylos and the Saints Sergios, Vackhos and Ioustini.

Addressing the crowded church, the Bishop of Corfu Corfu, after having read the passafe of “Sophia Solomon” that the righteous are being tested “as gold in the crucible”, stressed that the witnesses of faith lived in times when the evil  could not affect the spiritual life of the people, was trying to control the physical life through the prisoners. So, temptation was to make people slaves to the powerful, and to humiliate human life so much that people become servants to the powerful.

But the power of faith then made the witnesses stand up and show the world that they were children of God and render the then rulers and the ones in power powerless! Following the people, do the lords of course. Many were pagans. Many did not know the truth. But the resistance spirit made the witnesses endure. They may have tasted death, but received the witness’s crown and defeated death.

Sainthood is a true revolution! Sainthood holds in the century! So too is the martyrdom of the saints, whose memory remains alive in our hearts. The clearing of the heart in the blood and the confession of faith make the witnesses living figures. God invites us into confession of faith, not only in that time but also today, at a time when Christ is coming to us and people trusting themselves and their achievements. But our faith in God and God’s grace comes to strengthen our hearts and help us to give the confession we need!

The Bishop of Corfu concluded his speech by emphasizing that the feast of the saints is a day of life and witness! It is a challenge to give this testimony to the world!
