Bishop of Corfu Mr. Nektarios: “The spiritual maturity helps raising children”
On Sunday, October 21, 2018, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the holy Church of Saint Spyridon of Saroco. (Kotselas).
In his sermon, his Eminence analyzed the Epistle’s Reading of the Day, from the Galatian letter of Saint Paul, who speaks of the importance of the good works of the Christian, while keeping with faith in the Lord. The man who decides to follow Christ, strives every day against his passions, against his own selfishness, against his loving of himself, in short against anything that alienates him from his relationship with God. By respecting the Divine Will, man manages to live a holy life. As Saint Paul points out: ” I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.”. The old man no longer exists.
Apostle Paul also adds that the risk of man from spiritual negligence or resting to re-invite to the same passions, previously a slave, is always undergoing. In this case he will be presented to the Lord as a violator of the Divine Commandments and even worse will be described as unworthy of Christ’s confidence.
Moreover, the Bishop of Corfu, on the occasion of the celebration of the feast of families with many children, after assuring the Union of Families with Many Children of Corfu that the local Church will continue assisting them in their difficult daily struggle and stressed that parents’ responsibility for bringing up their children is immense, God’s. Parents are called to form human souls in education and admonition to the Lord. Spiritual maturity on behalf of both parents and relatives contributes to the development of children.
In his closing, Mr. Nektarios wished the Lord God to give patience and strength to the parents, especially in the harsh times we live, where every value is leveled and faith in Christ is being fought.
Finally, during the Divine Liturgy, his Eminence ordained a reader Christos Vrachliotis and made the Memorial Service for the rest of the soul of his spiritual father, the late Archbishop of Athens and all Greece, Christodoulos.
