Bishop of Corfu, Mr. Nektarios: “ We need to acquire the faith of our Holy Forefathers.”
On Sunday, December 16, 2018, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Church of Saint Nikolaos, in Alykes.
In his speech, his Eminence referred to the celebrating Holy Forefathers, who prepared humanity for God’s coming to the world. Even though, they didn’t witness the Birth of Christ, they worked with Him, for the fulfillment of the Divine Plan and through this, the salvation of the human kind.
These Forefathers are the primitive Adam and Eve, Patriarchs Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, prophet David and the prophets, many of whom poured out their blood for the true God. The element that distinguished all the Forefathers was their deep faith in God and the unwavering confidence in His will. This belief in our times is what is required, and it is necessary with our spiritual struggle and our participation in the mystical life of our Church to obtain it.
In addition, the Bishop of Corfu, on the occasion of the Gospel of the Day, emphasized that the great supper presented by the Lord of the parable is the mystery of our salvation, to which Christ calls us. As in the parable, there are many people who have different excuses in order to abstain from the mystery of the Divine Communion. But those, who are involved in this mystery, are becoming part of Christ, in other words, they are divinely communicating. This possibility is given only to baptized Orthodox Christians. This privilege, naturally, also implies our great responsibility for the Orthodox, that we ought to pay very close attention to our lives and to be constantly alert, having our spiritual senses open, as “the devil, as a lion rising walks around aiming to devou us “(1 Peter 8).
In closing, Mr. Nektarios wished the believers the Lord to be born in their own hearts.
