Bishop of Corfu, Mr. Nektarios: We need Wisdom
On Thursday afternoon, December 5, 2019, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the vesper in the celebrating Church of Saint Nikolaos in Kato Garouna.
Saint Nicholas did not rely on earthly knowledge, which, without being rejected, has no response without the knowledge of God. All his life he was aware of the presence of God. That is why the saint exchanged the wisdom of the world with the wisdom of God
Furthermore, the saint applied the biblical reason that the mouth of the righteous man brings forth the wisdom of God. His concern was the justice with which he treated his people as a bishop, as a spiritual father. He adorned injustice as a feature of people’s self-interest. He did not identify, as we do today, the righteousness with himself, but compared it with the law of God, which is identified with wisdom and love.
Saint Nicholas was an elder, the grandfather of the Church. However, according to Solomon, old age is not the many years, but the old wisdom. This is accompanied by bravery, experience, claiming the will of the people.
Today everyone is claiming everything for his ego. Inhumanity is a global phenomenon, as it is right to do what is best for the individual or groups that control the global course.
The Bishop of Corfu concluded by pointing out that St. Nicholas shows us the way of true wisdom, the path of God’s righteousness which is love, and the path of wisdom, which make man important to the neighbor and the people. Let’s follow this path.
