Bishop of Corfu, Mr. Nektarios: “We should acquire spiritual benefits this Christmas”

On Sunday morning, December 22, 2019, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the celebrating Church of Saint Anastasia in Liapades.

Speaking in the crowded church, Mr. Nektarios, on the occasion of Sunday’s pre-Christ Nativity reading, emphasized that the fact of the incarnation of the Son and Word of God needs our faith to be accepted. An example of faith is Joseph, who accepted the will of God and received the Virgin Mary, despite the strictness of the Mosaic Law which stipulated that a pregnant woman other than her husband should be killed with stones.

Christ’s ancestors do not receive value per se, but because they shared life with God and He gives them meaning and glory. God is like the sun shining on other planets. People who associate with God are illuminated by Him. Therefore, in order to be able to celebrate Christmas, we are called to live with purity in our hearts, to deny hatred, sin, self-destruction, evil against one’s neighbor, viciousness.

This is the path of the saints, such as the Saint Anastasia of Pharmacholytria, the protector and parishioner of the parish, who defeated the poisons of the world and sin, hatred, lust, selfishness, loved Christ, forgave the prisoners, offered medicine to the sick, offered the money of the paternal estate, taught the truth, and led people to come to know the true God.

Mr. Nektarios closed their minds by urging the faithful to reap spiritual benefits from the holy days of the feast and keep the gifts of faith as a valuable spiritual reserve. Let us coordinate our lives with the will of the born Jesus Christ, looking forward to the faces of the saints!
