Bishop of Corfu: “Our faith is under fight”
On Saturday, March 9, 2019, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Monastery of Virgin Mary of Vlachernes in Skripero village.
In his preaching, the Bishop of Corfu, on the occasion of the memory of the Holy Forty Martyrs, pointed out that the Witnesses of our Church are the living symbols of spiritual resistance and bravery, against temptation and sin. The Holy Forty Martyrs sacrificed their lives in a frozen lake. When they were going to the martyrdom, they said that the winter is harsh, but the paradise is sweet. Aligning or clinging, but enjoyment or pleasure. This pleasant enjoyment can only be experienced within the Church of Christ, especially in the blessed places of the monasteries, where prayer is redeemed overnight to the Lord of the Glory.
In addition, his Eminence emphasized that we need to imitate the Holy Forty Martyrs and to resist the present enemies of our Church and our country. Unfortunately our faith is under fight. The detainees try not only to alter it, but possibly eradicate it from the heart of the Greeks. On the other hand, Saint Chrysostom, referring to the Church, stresses that this ship can be shaken, but it does not sink. We have a sacred duty, according to the Martyrs’ example, to fight and, above all, to work spiritually. Inside the Church, humans are reborn, christianized, and so divinised.
In conclusion, Mr. Nektarios, after expressing his great joy and satisfaction, congratulated Archim. father Arsenios Peppes, who renovated the historical Holy Monastery. of the Virgin Mary of Vlahernes, a monastery that gives mental therapy and rest to the modern humans.
