Celebrating Saint Kyriaki in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu

On Sunday, July 7, 2019, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the celebrating Monastery of Saint Kyriaki in Kouramades.

In his sermon, the Bishop of Corfu analyzed the evangelical cut of the day, noting that the Lord emphasizes how damaging to our souls is the passion of greed and the desire to obtain material goods. On the contrary, full confidence in the providence of God the Father and the observance of His commandments flood man with the grace of the Holy Spirit. Christ exemplifies the roosters of heaven, as well as plants, whose beauty is not even compared to the wealth of King Solomon. And yet, both birds and plants are not anxious for their living needs. In addition, the Lord emphasizes that the lamp of the body is the eye. If the eye is good and clean, then the human body is also clean. Otherwise the wicked eye makes the body dirty.

Moreover, His Eminence emphasized that the Gospel has three manifestations. The first has to do with the consciousness of man, who constantly controls him, both for what he thinks and for what he does. The second manifestation is the creation-nature in which man lives, glorifying his Creator. And the third is of course the presence of the true God in our lives, the incarnation of God’s Son and Word, His Passion, His three-day burial, His Resurrection from the dead, and His Ascension.

Referring to the Holy Martyrdom of Kyriaki, Mr. Nektarios pointed out that the Saint gave her life to the ministry of the Erasmus of her soul, the Nymph of Christ. There was too much torture in order to deny the Lord. But she, even though she had a brave mind and boldly confessed to her beheading that the only Lord and her God was Jesus Christ. The Lord Himself had visited her in prison and strengthened her, telling her that His Spirit overshadowed her. St. Kyriaki glorified Christ in front of people and He glorified it. So many centuries have passed since the death of St. Kyriaki and the blood of the bovine to this day. Her martyrdom is one that invites us to spiritual awakening, especially today where many, whether they are called detainees or decision-makers, try to obscure and silence our consciousness, with the ultimate goal of moving us away from Christ and Christ. His Church, filling us with anxiety for everyday life, while the Christian’s only concern is the union with the Lord and the search for the Kingdom of Heaven.

Concluding, His Holiness wished the faithful that  Saint Kyriaki to be the cover and protection in their lives
