Celebrating Saints Three Martyrs in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu
On Sunday, 7 October 2018, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the celebrating Holy Church of Saints Three Martyrs, Sergios, Vackhos and Justine.
In his preaching, the Bishop of Corfu referred initially to the life of the Saints Three Martyrs, who refused to sacrifice to the idols, resulting to their own sacrifice for Christ’s love. They did not consider their youth, their origin, even death, because they were empowered by the defeater of death, our Lord. Our Saints teach us through time, to fight temptation and sins. In order to have internal power, Christians need to have faith and hope. The one who has Christ in a central position, has really found the meaning of his/her life. This is the revelation of power and hope.
Moreover, his Eminence analysed the Epistle’s part of the day, taken from the Second Epistle of Paul to Corinthians. He mentions the beyond nature events that he experienced, using a third person narration to describe them: “I met a man, who was seized in the third sky and witnessed all God’s miracles.” And continues by saying that no matter this event, God allowed all the miraculous things to happen and gave His blessing to this man, who had this spiritual and physical decease and was in much trouble. As human, Saint Paul prayed and begged Christ, asking Him to release him from this decease, in order to serve Him. Then, God replied that the Grace given to him is enough. Lord’s power is revealed through sickness, difficulties and sadness. Through various trials, humbleness is succeeded.
Firstly, God recognizes as a real child the humble and not the selfish one. Not the one who shows him/herself as the centre, not caring for the rest of his/her fellow people. Secondly, the one who suffers from any kind of sadness, helps in attracting the Divine Grace inside him/her. Lastly, through humbleness and Christ’s Grace, our salvation takes place, the final aim of the loyal’s path.
In his closing, Mr. Nektarios wished the Divine Grace to strengthen the spiritual power of the faithful, through the embassies of the Saints Three Martyrs.
