Celebrating the Transfiguration of Christ in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu

On Monday, August 6, 2018 his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the celebrating Holy Monastery of Saint Athanasius in Agros. The previous day, August 5, Mr. Nektarios did the Vesper in the celebrating Holy Monastery of Pantokrator in Kamarela.

In his preaching, the Bishop of Corfu referred to the great event of the Transfiguration of Saviour Christ in the mount Tabor, before his Willing Passion.

Christ’s face becomes light and his clothes white. The most loved of His Disciples, Peter, Jacob and John see the Triune God as He is, Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.

Christ chooses these Disciples because they were devoted to obey to the Divine will. Disciple Peter confessed Jesus Christ as the Son of God and Saviour, when others believed that the Saviour was Prophet Elias or Prophet John the Prodromus.

As happens today, so by that time, there was huge confusion as far as Christ was concerned. Confusion led to evil and evil led the Lord of Glory to the cross.

The sacred image of Transfiguration is completed by Moses and Elias. The first was faithful to Christ till his death, while the second confesses the Creator of the universe but did not die.

Christ with these two people indicated that He is the lord of life and death.

Moreover, his Eminence expressed his great joy and satisfaction for the spiritual work done by the two female monasteries, who testify the hope of the Resurrection and strengthen the people in difficulties.

In his closing, Mr. Nektarios wished that the uncreated light of the Transfiguration to calm the souls of the Orthodox Christians.

By the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Bishop of Corfu did the Blessing Service and put the base in the under construction Holy Church of the Virgin Mary the Just and the Chapel of Saint Porfyrios and Paisios, in the Holy Monastery of Pantokrator, in Agios Athanasios, Agros.
