Celebration of the Annunciation of the Lord in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu

On Sunday morning, March 25th, 2018 his Eminence did the Matin and the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Metropolitan Church of Virgin Mary the Spilaiotissa.

In his preaching, his Eminence mentioned the revealed mystery of God’s Incarnation to humans with the free willing participation of our Lady Theotokos, when she accepted the Second Part of the Holy Trinity in her own body. This chapter of Salvation sung in the Apolytikion of the Annunciation is the reason of our existence, our very own Lord who gives us the Divine Grace and the communion with God. Christ becomes human and frees us from the slavery of sins and death.

Our Lord invites us to experience the real freedom, love and sacrifice.

Moreover, his Eminence noted that the heroes of the 1821 Revolution fought firstly for the truths of our infallible Faith and secondly for our homeland, giving us the example of remaining loyal to the issues of faith and our Nation, as we have received them from our fathers. Living in hardships, for four centuries, our ancestors held in their heart the love of Christ, the Virgin Mary and the Saints.

That is why God did not abandon them but gave them freedom.

In conclusion, Mr. Nektarios urged the faithful to have a bold attitude, dressed in the weapons of Light, at a time when the neighbor “Sultan” after the last successes of his army in northern Syria, was dismayed, unleashing on a daily basis, war threats against Greece, while the two executives of our Armed forces are held hostage in the high security prisons of Adrianople, for the 25th day.

At the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Doxology in the Metropolitan Church was chanted, followed by the Panegyrical speech of the day, which was read by Konstantinos Vergos, director of the 2nd EPAL, and then the deposition of the wreaths in the Hero of the town, as well as the statue First Governor of Greece Ioannis Kapodistrias.

Due to adverse weather conditions, the established parade did not take place.
