The worhshipping events continue, On Monday, August 12, 2019, a divine Liturgy took place at the Holy Church of Saint Spyridon’s on the occasion of remembering Saint’s miracle, with their Eminences, the Bishop of Larissa, Mr. Ieronymos, the Bishop of Syros, Tinos, Andros, Kea, Mykonos, Milos, Sifnos, Serifor, Kithnos, Kimolos, Folegandros and Sikinos, Mr. Dorotheos, Thessaliotidos and Fanariofersalon, Mr. Timotheos, Stagon and Meteoron, Mr. Theoklitos, Philippon, Neapoleos, Thasos, Mr. Stefanos and the local one, Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios.
The Bishop of Corfu in his address after thanking the invited Bishops namely name and wholeheartedly, pointed out that our era has a special need for unity, love and community, not only of the Church crew, but especially of the spiritual fathers. Both our homeland and our society are disrupted daily because of Christ’s alienation of people.
With his miracle, Saint Spyridon invites all of us and today, as a spiritual guide, to unite on the Holy Bank and experience the Mystery of Love and Unity, Mr. Nektarios noted conclusively.
The Divine Speech was then preached by His Eminence, the Bishop of Philipoi, Neapoli and Thassos, Mr. Stefanos, who also thanked Mr. Nektarios for his hospitality and pointed out that it is very difficult for him to preach his divine speech. Saint Spyridon himself the Wonderworker.
He also stressed that the greatest treasure we Orthodox have, is our Saints. Many times we, especially the Greek Orthodox, boast about our living faith. Indeed our undying faith is alive, but that is not enough. Not only do we need to cherish the sacred relics of our Saints, but we also struggle spiritually in order to resemble them. To fight our passionate state, our passions, to count on all that keep us away from God and to dress, as the Apostle Paul urges us, the armor of God.
In addition, the Bishop focused on our debt to the Greeks to preserve the traditions of our fathers. Our whole country, especially our heroic Macedonia, is watered by the blood of Saints and martyrs and our people are well aware of this. In contrast, all those who try to change history and alter our faith prove that they are tasteless of Divine Grace.
In closing, Mr. Stefanos wished the embassies of St. Spyridon to empower the Metropolitan of Corfu, the holy Clergy of the island, as well as all the people of Corfu, Paxos and the Diaspora Islands.
Before the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Bishop of Corfu made a memorial service in support of the souls of his spiritual father Cathedral of the Holy Monastery of Ano Xenia Archimandrites Kallinikos and his father George.
At the end of the Divine Liturgy, Bishop Timotheos of Thessaly expressed his gratitude to all the bishops invited by the local Church to celebrate the miracle of St. Spyridon and wished Mr. Nektarios the Triadic God to bestow his gratitude on him.
