Bishop of Corfu, Mr. Nektarios: “God’s wisdom gives us prudence and keeps us modest.”
On Monday afternoon, March 19, 2018, in All Saints’ Church in Corfu town, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Pre-sanctified Divine Liturgy and the ending of the Institution of Catechists and the School for Parents of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu.
In his speech, his Eminence mentioned two verses of the Proverbs Book of the Old Testament. Initially he commented on the following verse: “Wisdom abides in the mind of a man of understanding”. God’s Wisdom is the one with which humanity has been plundered. God’s wisdom gives us prudence and keeps us modest as long as we have an understanding mind, in order for Christ to stay within us. And the Proverbs continues: “but it is not known in the heart of fools”. On the contrary, God’s wisdom does not exist in the heart of fools and unjust, because the community with Him has been shed. Unfortunately, human relationships have become hostile with one trying to impose on each other. This behavior is noticed in Abel’s murder by his brother Cain and the disasters during the Old Testament’s times.
Furthermore, the Bishop of Corfu mentioned that in our times, too, the inconsistency and incompatibility prevail in human relationships but also in the relationship with God. The hearings of wars and the nations’ assaults are increasing.
Family conflicts and social unrest have not ceased. Sadly, in our country, there is a prevalence of mental clutter. At first we are surprised to hear about everything that is happening around the world. On the other hand, however, because of time, we become accustomed to and do not react to all the aforementioned. We notice everyday the New Order of Things, the sole purpose of which is to demolish humans and promote immorality and lawlessness instead, by promoting civil partnerships, homosexual marriage, legalization of abortions and so on. Humans are transformed from people created like God, to a human as only one.
Additionally, his Eminence emphasized to the faithful Christians that our Lord, Jesus Christ will not abandon His creatures. The Spirit of God has also said that: The one, however, having endured to the end, he will be saved. We need prayer, patience, faith and hope in Christ.
At the end of the Pre-sanctified Divine Liturgy, there was the ending ceremony for the Institution of the catechists and the School for Parents of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu which operated for the 15th consecutive year, under the spiritual guidance of the Bishop of Corfu. For the Institution of the catechists, the responsible Archimandrite father Chrysostomos Koutsouris talked, deeply thanking his Eminence and emphasizing at the same time the importance of training the members of the local Church in ill times, since they are called to witness daily Christ.
From the School for Parents, the responsible priest, Protopresbyter father Spyridon Triantafyllos , who, after he thanked the Eminence for his support, stressed that parents have a sacred duty to God. To nurture their children “in the glory and in the knowledge of the Lord.” Children’s faces are reflected by Christ Himself. Therefore, parental responsibility is enormous. That is why the local Church gives its assistance.
Then Mr. Nektarios thanked the fathers, as well as the other priests, executives and speakers who have been working for many years in the Lord’s garden and have responded both to the call of their Church and to the questions and concerns of the same His Eminence, who called them co-travelers in the work of the Holy Metropolis.
Lastly, it should be noted that at the end of the pre-sanctified Divine Liturgy, the nominations for the catechists and the certificated of the School for Parents were given accordingly.
