More than € 2 million was collected for the work of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu in 2018.
A clerical gathering took place in the afternoon of Thursday, January 24, 2019, at the amphitheater of the Platytera Foundation in Corfu. During this meeting, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios, blessed the New Year’s Cake and presented the Financial and Management Report of both the Holy Metropolis of Corfu and its Foundations and the General Philoptic Fund of the local Church.
His Eminence pointed out that despite the great difficulties, because of the crisis we are experiencing, people help the Holy Metropolis, thus enhancing charity and the mission of the local Church. Nowadays, the people of the Holy Metropolis, both the clergy and the lay people are invited to give daily witness to Christ, to the Corfiot society and to the words and works. The testimony becomes timely, because the identity of our homeland is questioned, with the upcoming constitutional revision, which removes the reference to the Holy Trinity at the head of the constitution, the transformation of the state into a neutralist, the abolition of the Feast of the Three Hierarchs by the conversion on national holiday and the crisis of the modern family. The Church with all its work resists it, because It is the affectionate mother who embraces all of her children. Charity is an excuse to mobilize the popular element, starting from the Operational life. It embraces the whole person and not only his material side. Charity is forgiveness, it is prayer, it is the ministry of reason, the radio, the publications, the camps, the catechism, and every work of study and education.
Subsequently, the Bishop of Corfu presented the memorandum of the account for the year 2018, which, according to the figures, provided more than 2 million Euros for the charity, social and missionary work, which constitute a social offering of the Church to the people of God.
Moreover, his Eminence thanked all the associates of the local Church without exception.
In conclusion, Mr. Nektarios asked the clergy and laymen of the Holy Metropolis to thank and praise the Triune God every day for his rich donations.
