ORDINATION OF A DEACON IN THE METROPOLIS OF CORFU
On Saturday morning, March 3, 2018, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Monastery of Pantokrator in Agios Athanasios in Agros village.
During the Divine Liturgy, his Eminence ordained as a deacon Mr. Antonios Soueref, civil engineer, married, father of a daughter who will serve the local Church without a salary.
In his speech, the newly ordained underlined that his personal route is characterized by the deep faith in Christ but also by the love for the home country.
The Greek-Christian identity is the one which nurtured him and especially during the past few years, his connection with the local Church as far as the Bishop, Mr. Nektarios and his spiritual father, monk father Myron Simonopetritis, the abbess Eufemia along with the clergy who testify with faith and self- denial the Orthodoxy are concerned.
He mentioned that he choose consciously the route of priesthood following the call of God, he will offer every part of his self to the Church serving humans, the testimony of Salvation and also the culture that is originally saved by Orthodoxy, while asking from everyone to pray for his new life.
Replying to his speech, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Mr. Nektarios expressed his joy for the decision of the newly ordained, for the fact that it results from mature though and not from an early enthusiasm and invited him to devote himself to the work of our Lord especially in the difficult times that we go through.
It is our duty to inspire people to follow with originality our faith. It is our duty not to bend on the challenges of those who question the truth. It is our duty to be Christians in essence and not in theory. Orthodoxy is not a mere theory, but a route of Sanctification which comes through praying, askesis, struggle for truth. It is a route of love. A route of salvation. Yet, Orthodoxy is the womb of Hellenism. It is the one who will save everything precious that we have and the holy clergy is, thus, proud because a mature, educated and deeply concerned man enters in this world to serve with every part of his entity the humans.
Many priests participated in the liturgy along with a big amount of faithful Christians, friends and relatives of the newly ordained and others who attended the liturgy in the Holy Monastery, wished on the joy of the new deacon.
