Panegyrical Vesper of the Holy Epiphany in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu
On Saturday afternoon, January 5, 2019, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Panegyrical Vesper of the Holy Epiphany, at the Holy Church of Saint Spyridon the Wonderworker.
In his preaching, his Eminence analysed the phrase: “Today You have shone forth to the world, O Lord, and the light of Your countenance has been marked on us.” noting that the first Christian years, Christmas and Epiphany were celebrated at the same day, since the Son and Word of God is revealed during these two magnificent events. During His Baptism at the Jordan river, by Saint John the Forerunner, the Holy Trinity is revealed, with the voice of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit like a white dove.
With Christ’s baptism, the whole nature is sanctified, continued the Bishop of Corfu. In this Blessing, given by our Church through its Holy Mysteries, encourages everyone to participate. Therefore, the participation in the Holy Mysteries is no longer a mere custom, but a rebirth of soul and real communication with the Triune God.
In his closing, Mr. Nektarios wished the faithful Christians to have a new year full of Grace and Blessing of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
