Pastoral Visits of the Bishop of Corfu
On Friday morning, December 21, 2018, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios went to the Spiritual Centre of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu, where he gave food parcels to people in difficulties and especially to 300 families. The parcels had spaghetti, rice, milk, lentils, flour, sugar, paper, cleaning stuff, oil and poultry. The Holy Metropolis would like to thank everyone, the loyal Orthodox, the parishes of the island and the volunteers at the Social Supermarkets of the Holy Metropolis (Corfu town, Kanalia, Sidari and Lefkimmi), Vatopedi Monastery, that offers poultry and other food on a monthly basis for the needs of the Social Supermarket, Hellenic Relief, the association of expatriate in New York “ Corfiot Solidarity” for offering 150 turkeys and continue to support every Christmas and Easter, the needs of the Social Supermarkets, the Chamber of Corfu and especially Mr. Chondrogiannis and the State Council for offering 50 turkeys, Rotary Club of Corfu, that offers every month great amounts of food and paper stuff since the beginning of its working, the wood company “Duroxyl” and especially Mr. Makrodimitras, for their offering of turkey to the Social Supermarket in Sidari, the storages in Alepou and Mr. Michopoulos for helping keeping the food for the needs of the Social Supermarkets. The Holy Metropolis would also like to thank the high-street markets: “DIELLAS”, AB VASILOPOULOS, LIDL, DIMITRA MARKET and KAZIANIS that help the local Church and contribute with their basket of love in their exits.
Moreover, Mr. Nektarios thanked the Holy Church of Saint Spyridon for offering oil on a monthly basis, as well as the Corfu’s Conservatory that with the support of AHEPA of Corfu, gathered enough food.
In the afternoon, his Eminence visited the General Prefectural Hospital of Corfu on the occasion of Christmas holidays.
Mr. Nektarios was accompanied by the Head of the Hospital, Mr. Phoivos Kakavitsas.
The Bishop of Corfu gave kourabiedes and melomakarona (traditional Greek Christmas sweets), along with his blessings to the sick people there, and the nursing staff as well, wishing everyone happy and blessed Christmas and a happy and full of health new year, 2019.
It should be noted, that during his Eminence’s visit at the Hospital, the Children’s Choir of Kynopiastes “Galilaia” sung Christmas Carols.
