Poetic travelling through hymns and texts in the Holy Week
On Friday afternoon, March 30, 2018, in the Holy Church of Saint Spyridon the Wonderworker, an event was held. Its title was “Poetic travelling through hymns and texts in the Holy Week” in which the Choir of the Ecclesiastical Music School of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu “Saint Arsenios” under the direction of the first chanter Mr. Georgios Ladovrechis.
The event was presented through Tasos Livadeitis’ poetry, by the Protopresbyter father Themistoklis Mourtzanos, General Prelatic Warden of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu. In his address to the public, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios thanked the Choir for its great offer to the local Church and father Themistoklis, who was responsible for the event.
Moreover, the Bishop of Corfu mentioned that out Holy Church invites us to experience through this great humnology, the willing Suffering and the resurrection from the dead of our Lord, who regenerates us. We are invited today, just like the children of the Jews to exclaim to Christ, “Hosanna”, that is “Lord save us”. Lord is the only response and hope to this world. It is enough to turn our heart to Him. The crisis we are going through is a chance to turn again to Christ in order to redefine our lives, living spiritually.
In his closing, Mr. Nektarios asked from the faithful to experience in their hearts all the events of the Holy Week, in order to meet the Lord of Glory again.
It is worth noting that the Ecclesiastical Music School of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu “Saint Arsenios” was founded by the late Bishop Timothy in 1987, with the issue of the relevant Government Gazette.
The School stopped working in 2001 and started again after many years, in 2009. Since then, it has as its artistic director, father Ioannis Schoris, first chanter and professor of Byzantine music.
Byzantine Music is taught by Mr. Nikolaos Makropoulos, Mr. Georgios Ladovrechis, father Nektarios Bokos and Mr. Georgios Lavranos, first chanters. The School is recognized by the state and its courses take place in the Spiritual Centre of the Holy Metropolis.
Archimandrite father Ioustinos Konstantas, Chancellor of the Holy Metropolis is the general responsible and co-operator.
