Pre-sanctified Divine Liturgy in the Holy Church of Saint Spyridon the Wonderworker
On Wednesday, February 21, 2018, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Pre-sanctified divine Liturgy in the Church of Saint Spyridon the Wonderworker from Trimithounta.
In his preaching, his Eminence used as a basis a part of the Psalms “Those who sow with tears
will reap with songs of joy” (Psalm 125,5) and noted that the faithful Christians should cultivate the spiritual farmer, that is the inner human, the heart and soul of humans, according to Saint Paul.
Even our ancestors, the ancient Greek philosophers used to encourage people to “search inside”, to do their self-criticism. They should never believe that they are already spiritually cultivated. The spiritual struggle is an lifelong effort, the effort to abandon our personal will and as a result our evil side. At the same time, Saint Basil invited us to start our struggle with abandoning firstly the evilness.
He also asks the faithful Christians to pray and to talk with Christ, not only as a habit but as a need of the heart and this glorification to come directly from their hearts. Our Lord talked through prophet Hsaiah and he does not want sacrifices or killing the animals. He wants our hearts. Within the heart is placed the whole character of human beings. Love, humbleness, forgiveness whereas in the opposite side stand evilness, hatred, jealousy.
In his closing, Mr. Nektarios underlined that only through our service both to God and to people, we can understand what Christ asks from us, while participating in the Liturgical life of our Holy Church.
