PRESS RELEASE 24.11.2017
A letter of support to his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu Mr. Nektarios was sent by the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, on the occasion of the recent floods in the area of Lefkimmi and the destructions made there.
In his letter, his All-Holiness states between other:
“We are sad to hear of the fierce weather phenomena that struck, even deadly, your province and we hurry through this letter to support you.
We understand the tragicalness of the situation and we are by your side with real, paternal interest by expressing the support of the Mother Church and ours personally. Since we have had the opportunity to meet you and your people not only once, we have received your feelings of honor and love for the Institution of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and for me in person. We pray for you, our holy brother!
From Fener, which was tossed by the waves throughout its History and yet it survived, we are sending rich and praying to God for every single one of you, both the clergy and the people in order
God to support and give you strength and along with our patriarchal blessing, to have the prayers of your Saints, Spyridon the Wonderworker of Trimithous and Theodora the Queen which will stop the difficulties in the island of the Phaeacians.”
The Bishop of Corfu responded by thanking his All-Holiness for his love and interest, which shows the paternal affection for the inhabitants of the island as it is an honor to our place while asking the Ecumenical Patriarch to pray for no more difficulties.
