Priest Ordination in H.M. of Corfu
On Saturday, April 20, 2019, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the H. C. of Saint Nikolaos de Vecchi, where he ordained as priest, the deacon, father Konstantinos Merianos, married and father of two children man.
In his speech, father Konstantinos paralled the invitation from Christ with Lazarus and Christ’s command during his resurrection. Priests are invited to lead the souls to salvation. This is not an easy work rather difficult in the modern times. Priesthood and the responsibilities are enormous since they will be judged for their success on Judging day.
In his closing, father Konstantinos thanked his Eminence, his spiritual father, Prot. father Evangelos Koutras and his family, while asking from the people to pray so he will be strengthened by God and the embassies of our Lady THeotokos and the rest of the Saints.
The bIshop of Corfu pointed out that Priesthood is carrying the cross, the daily difficulties and confessing the faith in front of people. Especially for the priests, when there are so many people who hate them and they should be the first mentioned in priests’ prayers in order to become genuine disciples of Christ, who was sacrificed on the Cross to save the world. Priests should also witness and declare the resurrection of Christ. As it is our last hope. Lazarus’s resurrection is the first image of Lord’s resurrection who freed us from the sin and death.
In his closing, Mr. Nektarios wished to the newly ordained priest strength from Christ and all the Saints.
Lastly, after the end of the Divine Liturgy, Lazarus’s carols were sung to his Eminence by the children’s choir of Corfu’s choir, the Children’s Choir “Galilea” and the Children’s Choir of the Philarmonic Company of Corfu.
