Priest Ordination in the H.M. of Corfu
On Sunday, April 7, 2019, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the Church of Saint Eleni in Kanalia, where he ordained the deacon father Stefanos Poulimenos as a priest.
In his speech, father Stefanos having underlined the great responsibility of a Priest along with phrases of Saint Chrysostomos referring to Priesthood, thanked Christ and then his Eminence for his paternal love, trust and affection and his spiritual father, Archimandrite father Chrysostomos Koutsouris, father Spyridon Spinoulas, the late father Menelaos Poulis and the wife and his three children.
In his speech, his Eminence underlined the importance of Priesthood as a gift to humans by Lord. The Divine Grace comes to fulfill everything missing from the humans in order to renew them with Lord’s power. After all, this is the meaning of praying to the Holy Spirit. Priesthood cannot be understood with the human mind since it takes place in the earth but also in the sky. Our Lord invites us to help people climb up the stairs to heaven. Priests and their services have this role, to show the stairs to humans and lead them to the one and only truth Christ. He is our only hope, as Saint Paul says. With this faith, we keep hope. The hope to the resurrected Christ firstly experienced by the Priests and then given to people. In this life, humans can only live with the faith and hope to Lord.
Moreover, the Bishop of Corfu underlined that people today have stopped believing and follow as a rule the following: “we eat, we drink since tomorrow we will die”. Hope of the senseless is the reality. Hope of the faithful is the Christ and the eternal communion with him.
In his closing, Mr. Nektarios wished to father Stefanos to be blessed by Lord and strengthened to his difficult work as a priest.
