Priest Ordination in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu

Priest Ordination in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu

On Sunday, May 13, 2018, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands did the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Church of Virgin Mary the Eleousa in Gardelades village.

In his speech, the Bishop of Corfu analyzed the Gospel part of the day, the healing of the blind man by Jesus Christ. The point that needs to be emphasized is that the Lord, the second person of the Holy Trinity, is the One who performs the work of creation. By His incarnation, the Son comes into the world and recreates the humanity. The Triune God created human from soil, blowing his life’s breath. This work of creation continues. We see Jesus Christ making clay from earth and healing the blind man by birth, restoring him to the sensor of vision. However, this benefit to Christ did not appeal to this portion of the Jews, who were envious and hateful, accusing the Lord, for he healed the blind on the Sabbath day. This is the way of thinking and the attitude of life for those who rest on keeping the letter of the law, indifferent to their brothers.

Another element, Mr Nektarios continued, which is worth noting is the faith of the blind. Christ asks him if he believes, and he answers in the affirmative. It cannot be understood a living relationship with God if there is no faith, translated as trust in Him.

In closing, his Eminence asked the faithful first to have faith in the Risen from the dead Lord, secondly to boldly confess Christ, especially in today’s times when our Church is being beaten all the time, and thirdly, not to forget that any absence either on the health side, or spiritual life, only Jesus Christ can replenish it.

At the end of the Divine Liturgy, Mr. Nektarios ordained the priest of the temple as protopresbyter, Father George Anthis, prasing his ecclesiastical ethos and the spiritual work he has done.
