Saint Antonios’s memory celebrated in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu
On Wednesday morning, January 17, 2018 his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Matin and the Episcopal Divine Liturgy in the celebrating historical church of Saint Antonios in Corfu Town. Many people participated in the Liturgy.
In his speech, Mr. Nektarios mentioned that Saint Antonios is characterized as Great by our Church, because he pleased the Triadic God with his ascetical life and Christ gave him glory. Saint Antonios lived in the desert of Egypt, teaching with the example of his life.
For this reason, he was called “the professor of the desert”, indicating the spiritual path to every Christian. He listened to his conscience and abandoned this world and its materialistic goods, he fought the temptations and devoted himself entirely to Jesus Christ.
Moreover, his Eminence using the Epistle reading of the day, underlined the fact that Saint Antonios had a good conscience. He experienced and understood the presence of God in his life.
Unfortunately, today, the majority of people do not listen to their conscience, living a life in clutter, without God, where everything is allowed in order to satisfy the egoism and narcissism of people.
In his closing, the Bishop of Corfu invited all the loyal Christians to open their spiritual ears while wishing to be kept and protected by Saint Antonios in order to live within the community of Faith and Love.
