Saint Nikolaos’ Feast Celebrated in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu

In the Holy Metropolis of Corfu it was celebrated the memory of Saint Nikolaos, Archbishop of Myra of Lykia with magnificence and the presence of lots of faithful Christians. On Wednesday’s morning, December, 6, 2017 took place the Episcopal Divine Liturgy with his Eminence the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, mr. Nektarios in the Church of the celebrating Saint Nikolaos de Vecchi.

In his preaching, mr. Nektarios mentioned than Saint Nikolaos taught to his flock the true Faith and gave joy to the sad ones. Sadness is a transient mental state of human, who is far from the source of prosperity and joy, that is, the Triadic God. Sadness occurs from our own self, usually when we ask for our will to be realized and eventually it is not, either by temptation which leads us to despair, or by our surroundings and the various condemnations or accusations against us.

However, the faithful Christian during these moments, is armed with the gifts of the Christ, love, faith, forbearing and joy.

So did Saint Nikolaos. He offered and continued to offer like a vessel of the Holy Spirit, joy to people.

In conclusion, the Bishop wished to the faithful Christians to imitate Saint Nikolaos’ life and through his prayers to walk the path of Sainthood, having communication with Jesus Christ.
At the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Bishop of Corfu went to the island’s Navy Station where he prayed for the Navy, the Mercantile Marine and the Coast Guards. Mr. Panagiotis Kouroumplis, Minister of Shipping, represented the Government.

His Eminence wished that the Holy Trinity through the prayers of Saint Nikolaos will guard our Navy and Coast Guard.
Finally, Spyridon Mexas, sub-lieutenant and Vice- President of the Union of Navy Officers of Northern Greece talked about Saint Nikolaos.
