Saint Prodromus’ preaching awakens consciences even today

Bishop of Corfu, Mr. Nektarios: “Saint Prodromus’ preaching awakens consciences even today”

On Wednesday, August 29, 2018, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the celebrating Church of Saint John of Corfu Town.

In his preaching, the Bishop of Corfu praised Saint Prodromus’ personality. Our Holy Church shows Saint Prodromus’ face.

The Church celebrates his conception, his birth, his Synaxis, the Beheading of his holy Head and the Finding of his Holy Head. Saint John prepared the road for our Lord’s coming to this world He baptised people in the Jordan River with water while Christ baptised them with fire in the name of the Holy Spirit.

The new members of the Church are baptised in the water as a visible sign of the Holy Grace and with fire and in the name of the Holy Spirit when participating in the Mystery of the Holy Communion.

The Glorious Prodromus preached the truth, as a person and not as an abstract idea, Christ himself and the repentance, the return of humans to God. He also controlled the ones in power, Herodes and his family who lived an opposing life to God’s will. John’s preaching did not stop even after his death, since he preached Lord’s coming to the dead ones.

Moreover, his Eminence referring to the current times, he mentioned that the living conditions are similar to the time of the Glorious Prophet, Saint John. Also today, the ones in power try to silence the ones who report the distance and the loss of the spiritual orientation of people.

Saint John’s preaching awakens consciences even today. The daily struggle can be seen as an ocean. The one who does not have a compass, will definitely be lost. Our compass is Jesus Christ, who leads the way to our Heavenly Father, to salvation and Divinity.

In his closing,Mr. Nektarios invited the loyal Christians to imitate the fighting spirit of the Glorious Prophet and confess with boldness Jesus Christ in the difficult times we live.
