Saint Spyridon was fully committed to the Orthodox Faith

Bishop of Corfu, Mr. Nektarios: “Saint Spyridon was fully committed to the Orthodox Faith

On Monday afternoon, December 11,2017 the Panegyrical Episcopal Vesper was made by his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands for the Memory of Saint Spyridon the Wonderworker from Trimithounta. A huge amount of people attended the Vesper.

The Bishop talked about Saint Spyridon based on the chanter’s words. According to him, Saint Spyridon was the “glory of the Bishops”. Among others, his Eminence talked about the powerful love and faith for the Triadic God that Saint Spyridon had and made him special.

His whole life was based on the Holy Spirit. He was elected as a Bishop because of Holy Spirit’s grace and when he did the Divine Liturgy he was accompanied by Angels because he had deep love for our Lord. Moreover, continued the Bishop, Saint Spyridon was fully committed to the Orthodox Faith and supported it with every part of his soul. He defined the Word of God to men in the First Ecumenical Synod in Nicaea in front of Arius, when he made the miracle with the tile.

The Bishop also pointed out that the modern human is mostly concerned about him/her and puts him/her as of most significant importance while he/she does not care about the other people. Secondly, the modern human has left aside the spiritual life and bases his/her life on materialistic prosperity.

Finally, people of our age care only for the present, leaving aside the future, the spiritual and the eternal life. The Holy relic of Saint Spyridon validates throughout the centuries the life along with Christ, the life of Resurrection and Eternity.

In his closing, mr. Nektarios wished to the loyal Christians that Saint Spyridon will pray for them, help and bless them during their lives in order to walk along with Christ.
