Sunday before the Nativity of Christ in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu

Sunday before the Nativity of Christ in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu

On Sunday, December 23, 2018, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Church of Saint Jason and Sosipatros.

In his preaching, the Bishop of Corfu underlined the importance of us of the incarnation of Son and Word of God. The Second Person of the Holy Trinity becomes human, in order to make God the fallen human nature. This supreme mystery of God’s Plan, we are all invited to participate in it, by experiencing the mystical life of our Holy Church and by taking our Body and Blood of Christ.

Moreover, his Eminence, taking the occasion of the great participation of the young parents with their children in the Mystery of Life, expressed his great joy and satisfaction, for a spiritual father, the highest joy is the spiritual prosperity of his children and on the other hand, he stressed to the parents that together with God, they become co-creators.  This, of course, implies the great responsibility they bear to nurture their children at the instigation of Apostle Paul in the education and admonition of the Lord.

After the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Church was full of children’s voices of the preparatory courses I and II of the Children’s Choir of Corfu, under the direction of Mrs. Christina Kalliaridou. The children sung Christmas Carols to his Eminence.

At the end, Mr. Nektarios thanked the priest of the Holy Church, father Spyridon Garnelis and congratulated the children, Mrs. Kalliaridou and the president of the Choir, Mr. Takis Metallinos, for the cultural work they offer for all these years to the Corfiot society.

Lastly, his Eminence pointed out that we, the older, need to become like children regarding sin, wickedness and evilness, in order our prayers to be like the one of young children and please Christ, according to the Old testament passage: “From the lips of children and infants
you, Lord, have called forth your praise” (Psalm 8:3)
