The celebration of the Holy Spirit in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu
On Monday, May 28, 2018, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Episcopal Divine Liturgy in the celebrating church of the Holy Trinity in Garitsa.
In his preaching, the Bishop of Corfu, based upon the teaching of St. Nicodemus of the Holy Mountain, highlighted three changes experienced by the Apostles, when the outbreak of the Paraclete, on the day of Pentecost. The mind of the Apostles was primarily altered.
Until before the descent of the Holy Spirit, the disciples thought with worldly criteria. When the Lord spoke to them about the Kingdom of Heaven, they began to quarrel about who would hold the first place in it. In light of the Paraclete, the Disciples gained self-awareness, humiliated, likening themselves to rubbish.
Secondly, the Paraclete altered the Apostles in the heart. Before students were thinking about their work and social issues. Now that they are re-baptised by the fire of God, they feel that their role is in the sky. They leave all the material worries and the earth and begin the evangelization of the world.
And thirdly, the Holy Spirit alters the language of the Apostles. They become fishermen all-around. While until recently was hidden for fear of the Jews, now the Paraclete gives boldness, leave and speak the language of truth, God’s language, denouncing all the nations of the Risen Jesus Christ from the dead. They defy any danger, even death, because they are burning with love for their Master.
Concluding Mr. Nektarios wished the Triune God gives this alteration to all Christians to march on the path of repentance and salvation.
