The Epitaphios’ Procession and the Litany of Saint’s Spyridon Holy Relic
On Holy Saturday’s morning, April 7, 2018, the Epitaphios’ Procession and the Litany of Saint’s Spyridon Holy Relic were held. This Litany is the oldest and started approximately in the 16th century, with the miracle that Saint Spyridon did in 1553, saving the island from hunger.
His Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios sang the “Arise, O God; judge the earth, for You shall inherit all the Gentiles” in the Metropolitan Church of Virgin Mary the Spilaiotissa. Its bell triggered the throwing of botides (traditional clay pots filled with water) at 11:00 exactly in the morning, signalling the first Resurrection.
