The Feast of Saint Catherine in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu
On Saturday, November 25, 2017 his Eminence the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands mr. Nektarios did the divine Liturgy in the Church of Saint Eleftherios in Corfu Town.
In his preaching, the Bishop mentioned the “Nymph of Christ”, Saint Catherine, whose memory is celebrated by our Church.
Saint Catherine participated in the education and Wisdom of God and so she was called omniscient (the one who knows everything).
Her love for Christ was immense and so she died for Him.
Unfortunately, today, continued the Bishop of Corfu, the modern times are quite similar to those of Saint Catherine. The idolatry is present everywhere with different forms, people have changed and they only care about themselves and how to take advantage of the others in every possible way.
Moreover, the Bishop expressed his deep sadness and bitterness for the fact that even after so many decades, the historical church of Saint Catherine is not yet repaired. This Church was a part (Metochi) of the Holy Monastery of Saint Catherine in Sinai. For this issue, the local Church is continuously mocked by various responsible people.
In his conclusion, mr. Nektarios invited the faithful Christians to imitate the way Saint Catherine lived, while keeping Jesus Christ in their hearts.
