The Feast of the Annunciation in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu

On Thursday, June, 6 2019 his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the celebrating Church of the Annunciation in the suburb with the same village in Corfu.

In his preaching, the Bishop of Corfu mentioned that with His Annunciation to the sky, Jesus Christ put humans in God’s throne. Now human is on the right side of God the Father. This is the greatest honor for the humans, who in their disobedience, tasted the wear, the pain and the death, both the bodily and the spiritual.

In addition, his Eminence noted that the disciples asked for Christ before He ascended to the heavens, to abandon them, not to leave orphans, but to stay with them. The Lord, with His ungodly mouth, assured the disciples that he would be near them, all the day to the fulness of time, sending them the Paraclete. The greatest certainty is the presence of the Lord and the Holy Spirit in the world. Though people, by their own selfishness, by their narcissism and by their greed, they despise God, yet He as a loving Father expects every man to come to himself and return.

Moreover, his Eminence noted three attributes of the Ascension of the Lord. The first is that Christ is received in the heavens with His human Body. Secondly, the Body of the Lord always carries the signs of His Cross sacrifice, which is proofless evidence of His Resurrection, especially to the non-believers. These spots also give strength to the faithful who struggles against temptation and sin. And thirdly, the Lord in His glorious Ascension wears red hemlock, symbolizing His blameless Blood, shedding on Golgotha, for our salvation.

In closing, Mr. Nektarios, since he wished the Ascended Christ to strengthen, cover and illuminate all Christians, underlined the need to always be in spiritual alertness, since the believer has the assurance of the Lord Himself that He is at his side all the day to eternity.
