The second dignified Vesper in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu
On Sunday afternoon, February 25, 2018 the most pious Bishop of Salona, Mr. Antonios did the second dignified Vesper in the Holy Church of Saint Spyridon the Wonderworker.
In the end of the Vesper, the most pious gave a speech on the following topic: “Humans as images of God”.
Mr. Antonios thanked first his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios and then noted that every human is an image of God. He/She has the virtues of the Triune God, as gifts that he/she is invited to cultivate and make more. However, there are some conditions that need to be followed in order for human to move from the image to the actual god-like existence.
Firstly, the believer has to be Orthodox, to have the accurate faith as far as Christ is concerned and not to deviate from it. He/She should remain stable to the teaching of Christ and Holy Fathers. Second condition is the ability to act accurately. It is not enough only to believe the accurate but to act this way too. This way of living results in the realization of the Divine Will and the abandonment of our own one. Lastly, third condition is to keep a humble spirit, through which all the previous are attainable.
Nothing is achievable without Christ. The one who struggles spiritually, takes strength from the Triune God and moves to the actual god-like existence. And what this means? The aim of each believer’s spiritual struggle is his/her union with Jesus Christ. It is the communication with God, the Lady Theotokos and every Saint in the Kingdom of the Sky. Eventually it is the ability to see the Unbuilt light which lights every single human soul. Our Saints are real examples of the participation in life with Christ since they have experienced from this world, the Kingdom of God.
In his closing, the most pious wished to everyone a good finishing of the Holy Lent and to be blessed by Christ to experience His glorious Resurrection from the dead.
From its part, the local Church thanked Mr. Antonios with the Archimandrite father Ioustinos Konstantas, Chancellor of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu.
