The Second Part of the Akathist Hymn and Small Compline in the Holy Church of Saint Spyridon
On Friday afternoon, March 2, 2018 the Second Part of the Akathist Hymn to Virgin Mary and the Small Compline took place with dignity in the Holy Church of Saint Spyridon the Wonderworker.
Archimandrite father Ioustinos Konstantas, Chancellor of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu did the preaching. He used as a basis the verse “Rejoice, land of promises; Rejoice, from whom flow milk and honey.” and he pointed out that our Virgin Mary is like the promised, by God, land to the Israeli people after their forty year-route in the desert and their freeing from the tyranny of Pharaoh.
The Lady Theotokos is the One who became vessel of the Holy Spirit. The Son and Word of God, the Second Part of the Holy Trinity acquired the human form in her body. Moreover, from the Virgin Mary flow milk and honey, both of which symbolize life. The one who believes in Christ lives eternally. Even death is a passing to the actual life, the first taste of the Kingdom of the Sky.
In his closing, father Ioustinos wished that through the prayers of our Theotokos to open our hearts to Christ moving towards the road of salvation and sanctification.
