The Service of the Bridegroom in the Holy Church of Saint Spyridon
On Palm Sunday afternoon, April 1, 2018 the service of the Bridegroom took place in the Holy Church of Saint Spyridon the Wonderworker with the presence of a multitude of faithful people.
The preaching was made by Archimandrite father Ioustinos Konstantas, Chancellor of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu, who mentioned Joseph the Patriarch, the beloved son of Jacob, that our Holy Church commemorates on Holy Monday along with the dried-off by the Lord fig.
Joseph was prefigurement or image of Christ, since he was slandered and fought by the evil. However, his understanding of the presence of real God in his life, prevented him from being tempted. Another element that distinguished Joseph was his forgiveness to all those who fought him.
Regarding the dried fig tree, our Lord teaches us to have living fruits in our spiritual life, namely repentance, forgiveness, humbleness and above all love. Without these fruits, humans are like the fruitless fig tree, which was cursed by Christ.
In his conclusion, father Ioustinos urged the faithful to experience in their daily lives the presence of God, accompanied by the living fruits of spiritual life.
