The Third Part of the Akathist Hymn and Small Compline in the Holy Church of Saint Spyridon
On Friday afternoon, March 9, 2018 the third part of the Akathist Hymn and Small Compline took place in the Holy Church of Saint Spyridon.
The preaching was made by the Archimandrite father Sevastianos Topalis, Prelatic Warden of Amyntaion in the Holy Metropolis of Florina who used as a basis a verse of the Akathist Hymn:
“Rejoice, tree with luscious fruit, by which the faithful are sustained; Rejoice, foliaged tree of beautiful shade beneath which many are sheltered” and noted that Virgin Mary hugs all of us who warmly pray for our requests for salvation.
As the Mother of God, she has the boldness to pray for all of us eternally. During this grieving period, of the Great Lent, our Holy Church has arranged for the Akathist Hymn and the Small Compline to our Lardy Theotokos to be sung every Friday afternoon. These Hymns make us happy and give us strength for our spiritual struggle.
Moreover, father Sevastianos underlined that we are called to imitate our Theotokos and shroud with our prayers and love the other people and especially our “enemies”. In reality, Christians do not have other enemies, apart from the devil. Humans who pray to God for the ones they hate, judge and are unjust towards them, have the Divine Grace in their hearts. That’s what Christ wants from us, to have a loving heart and bowels of forgiveness.
In his closing, father Sevastianos wished to the faithful Christians to be shrouded and strengthened in their daily struggle by our Virgin Mary.
