Bishop of Corfu, Mr. Nektarios: “We are all responsible for the spiritual mess of the humankind.”
On Friday, April 13, 2018, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Monastery of Virgin Mary in Palaiokastritsa.
In his preaching, the Bishop of Corfu analysed the Epistle reading of the day, from the Acts of the Apostles, where, as the disciples Peter and John came to the temple to pray, they found a man who was asking for money. Apostle Peter responded that they did not have money, but they would give him from what they had, Grace of the Holy Spirit, which the Lord has given them. This man was instantly cured by Peter, in the name of Jesus Christ, and began to walk again. There is no more precious gift than the Grace of Christ that is impossible to compare with all the wealth of the world.
Additionally, his Eminence emphasized that the Apostolic Reading of the Day is associated with the feast of Zoodohos Pigi (Life-giving Spring). Sick people visited the monastery of Balukli in Constantinople, where they took the holy water and were all healed. So they associated the miracle to the Lady Theotokos, who has since been called Zoodohos Pigi. Our Lady received in her virginal viscus the Life, our Lord, from whose side, however, they sprouted life spikes for the humans.
The Bishop of Corfu also expressed his great concern at the sounds of the wars that are all over the world, underlining that we are all responsible for the spiritual mess of humankind. We attempted to separate ourselves from God, relying on our own powers and failed. The results of this behavior are obvious daily.
In conclusion, Mr. Nektarios wished us all in repentance and humbleness to return to Christ, placing Him as a center in our lives, at the same time living spiritual life, through the embassies of the Most Holy Theotokos and all the Saints.
