Bishop of Corfu, Mr. Nektarios: “We should recognize Christ as our Lord and God”
On Sunday, April, 15, 2018, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Church of Saint Nikolaos in Sidari.
In his speech, his Eminence underlined that the unfaithfulness of Disciple Tomas is characterised by the Fathers of our Church, as a good unfaithfulness. Particularly today, we should not believe easily what we hear in various conversations about miracles and foretelling, but instead be very careful.
The only miracle we have as Orthodox Christians to asseverate the Resurrection from the Dead of our Lord. The greeting that we are addressing during the Easter period, “Christ is risen- Really He is risen” is the confession of the cosmic-historic event of the abolition of death, by Jesus Christ and at the same time the firm belief in our Resurrection. This is our hope and our pride.
The Bishop of Corfu also stressed that the power of faith and hope is the one that makes us stand up to the century that we live, in the century of unfaithfulness, of God’s denial, ambition and bestial selfishness. We are called as the Disciple Tomas to recognize Christ as our Lord and God, following the Divine Will in our lives.
In his closing, Mr. Nektarios wished to the faithful that the Incessant Light that sprung from the Life-giving Tomb to lead them to every good work in order to glorify God.
